Day 2: Boulder

Jump in your rental car to hit the road for the next 6 days. Your first stop is Boulder, a college town that’s surrounded by the Flatirons rock formations.

• Start with a visit to Pearl Street Mall
• Delve into astronomy at the Fiske Planetarium on the Colorado University campus
• Spend some time in Chautauqua Park or Mount Sanitas
• Try the renowned Boulder craft beer at charming pubs, restaurants and breweries

Where to stay: For your one-night stay in Boulder, consider Hotel Boulderado a historic icon established in 1908, or Basecamp Boulder, which features a “Great Indoors” room that brings the camping experience inside

Transportation: If you’ve come to Boulder without a vehicle, we recommend renting a car here to make the most of your Colorado vacation. There are also regional buses and private shuttle services.

Day 3: Estes Park / Rocky Mountain National Park

Surrounded by the awe-inspiring peaks of the Rocky Mountains, make Estes Park your starting point:

• In Rocky Mountain National Park, more than 300 miles of hiking trails offer enchanting natural wonders and wildlife. A number of easy walks start from the Bear Lake Trailhead
• Go adventuring in the great outdoors with rock climbing and rafting in summer, and backcountry skiing in winter
• Unwind at wellness spas and restaurants and browse boutiques in downtown Estes Park

Where to stay: Stay at The Stanley Hotel, famous for its role in Stephen King’s novel The Shining. For bigger groups, try the riverfront condos at River Stone Resorts & Bear Paw Suites.

Transportation: If you’d like a break from driving, hop on free shuttle buses to Rocky Mountain National Park from the Estes Park Visitor Center.

Day 5: Vail

Set off early today for a scenic drive of about 3 hours to this famous mountain resort.

• In winter you’ll find skiing, snowmobiling, sleigh rides and snow tubing
• Explore Betty Ford Alpine Gardens
• Visit Epic Discovery for ziplines, a climbing wall, a bungee trampoline and a mountain coaster

Where to stay: To be in the center of Vail, we recommend Sonnenalp, for its full-service spa and ski concierge, or the Tivoli Lodge, where you can enjoy fireplaces and mountain views.

Transportation: Once you’re in Vail you can park the car because many attractions are within walking distance of each other. Alternatively, the town offers free buses and miles of biking trails.

Day 6: Georgetown

• Get on the Georgetown Loop Railroad, a narrow-gauge train ride that takes you back in time
• Dare to venture more than 1,000 feet underground at the Capital Prize Gold Mine
• Hotel de Paris Museum, the Georgetown Heritage Center and Hamill House Museum
  

Where to stay: In the heart of Georgetown, the Hotel Chateau Chamonix is perfect for romantic escapes while families will appreciate the space of an entire house, such as the two-bedroom Snowberry Sanctuary with lake views.

Transportation: You can explore the charming streets in the heart of Georgetown on foot; however, it’s worth getting the car out to discover the dazzling Guanella Pass Scenic Byway, a 23-mile road offering views of aspen forests and soaring peaks.

Day 7: Denver

Say goodbye to Georgetown for your hour-long drive back to Denver today. Depending on your flight time, it’s possible to fill your itinerary with a few more adventures along the way.

• Stop at Idaho Springs to visit Argo Gold Mine and Mills and see the historic buildings
• Get a panoramic view of the Denver from William Frederick Hayden Park
• Drive 30 minutes to the other side of Denver to visit the wetland and woodland habitats of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. It’s a 30-minute drive to the airport from here
